A vibrant prairie city located near the center of the province of Alberta in western Canada, Edmonton is Canada's fifth-largest city, with a population of 730,372. The Edmonton metro area is the sixth largest in the country, with a population estimated at 1,034,945. The provincial capital, Edmonton offers a wide variety of places to go and activities to enjoy at any time of the year. Known as Canada's Festival City, Edmonton hosts more than 30 annual festivals that celebrate music, food, culture, sports and theater. The city is home to numerous world-class galleries and museums and more than 1,600 restaurants.

Climate Overview
Edmonton experiences four distinct seasons. Snow cover characterizes winter from November through mid-March. Summers are generally dry and sunny. With about 2,300 hours of bright sunshine per year, Edmonton is one of Canada’s sunniest cities.

Schools

Public education is free in Alberta to all Canadian citizens and residents until the age of 20. Attendance is mandatory from the age of six until 16. Students may attend public, separate (Catholic or Protestant), Francophone, charter schools or private schools. Many schools offer programs in French and other languages, and offer concentration in arts, drama, music, and trades or all-girl/all-boy learning environments.
